Despite being thought of as a period bereft of major conflicts, there
were in fact many outbreaks of hostilities. Amongst these were the Italian
invasion of Ethiopia, the Sino-Japanese War &, of course, the Spanish
Civil War - a testing ground for Germany's newly developed weapons &
tactics, including strategic bombing against civilians
