PROCEEDINGS OF THE GENERAL COURT MARTIAL ON CAPTAIN WATHEN 15TH KINGS HUSSARS

Facsimile of 1834 edition. One of the most celebrated courts martial in the British Army of the 19th Century, that of Captain Augustus Wathen, 15th King's Hussars, was for "conduct unbecoming an officer and a gentleman" in a matter stemming from the issue of new stable-jackets to the men of his troop. His commanding officer Lord Brudenell, later of the charge of the Light Brigade fame, was removed from the command of his regiment, and Captain Wathen was acquitted of the charges.

CANARIS: PATRIOT UND WELTBURGER

German text. Head of the Abwehr during WWII, Wilhelm Canaris was dismissed by Hitler in 1944. He was placed under house arrest and thus was prevented from taking part in the July Plot against Hitler. Heinrich Himmler, persuaded Hitler that Canaris was linked to the July 20 Plot and an SS drumhead court-martial sentenced him to death. Canaris was humiliated and executed by slow strangulation at Flossenbürg concentration camp on April 9, 1945. German text.
